METALWERX
Spray, Brush, Dip, and Sift: Liquid and Jewelry Enamel on Steel (online)
November 9th + 16th
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
DESCRIPTION: Vitreous enameling - fusing glass onto iron plates - was developed in the mid-1800s and used to create enameled signs which were referred to as “street jewelry.” In this class, you will use steel tiles to learn how to properly spray, brush, dip, and sift liquid and jewelry enamel to create your own “street jewelry,” or “enameled drawings.” In addition, students will learn how to properly mix and rehydrate liquid enamel, as well as how to compare proper and improper application methods to help build problem-solving skills in the studio. After completing this course, students will have the knowledge to apply these techniques to steel and other alloys independently.
POCOSIN
Spray, Sift, Play: Enamel on Steel (online)
January 10th + 7th
11:00 am - 1:30 pm
DESCRIPTION: Fusing jewelry enamel to steel presents unique challenges, and this class will guide students through the process of preparing steel surfaces for successful firings. Participants will practice these techniques while working on their own steel samples. From there, students will explore various methods and materials to create “enameled drawings,” using techniques I’ve developed. By the end of the course, students will gain both the skills to fuse jewelry enamel to steel and the confidence to experiment and play within their enameling practice.
